cool thought process

I found this while net surfing. The person there said they didn't write it so I don't know who to give credit to but I thought it was very true and profound.

"As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin."

protecting your computer

I spent most of the past 24 hours working on my pc. Sometime after I went to work yesterday my daughter managed to download and install a trojan and it wouldn't even let my antivirus programs load so I couldn't remove it or shut it down. It kept popping up messages trying to make you think it was an av program. I finally did a system restore (love that about xp) and was able to start from a point prior to the infection. I have since istalled some programs to safeguard my pc. Before installing any of them, you should note they are only effective if you let them do their job. We have AVG but we would log off when not on the computer so it wouldn't be able to scan since it wasn't on, then when we got on we would tell it to stop scanning because it slowed us down. I have now set up automatic scans and let it run during the schedule time. AVG is a great free antivirus program.

Spyware-
I read a lot on these and I ended up installing spycatcher. http://www.tenebril.com/consumer/spyware/spycatcher.php
It doens't use a lot of memory or system resources but has been working great.

Spybot- lots of people recommended this one
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,22262-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html

Antivirus
AVG- I have used this for years and its always worked great for me when you let it do its job. http://free.grisoft.com/

Anvir Virus Destroyer- http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Anti-Virus_Utilities/AnVir_Virus_Destroyer.html
I like that it monitors and shows you whats happening on your pc.

Avast- this was already installed when I got my computer and I hadn't had any problems prior to yesterday and I blame that on my daughter shutting down the protecton software.

monitoring-
I have been using active security monitor from AOL(who I don't like btw) and I like it because it will scan your system and score you to let you know how your protection rates. You can click and it will give you details. Naturally the software it recommends tends to come from AOL but once you know what you need you can google and find all the other choices out there and investigate on your own.

Raining

Its pouring rain tonight. They say its going to rain most of the night and part of tomorrow. I think we should really be catching up on the water shortage from last year because it seems like its rained a lot so far this year. Of course I think we were about a foot short last year so everyone says we need it badly. Some of the big cities are still on water rationing.
I went over the weekend and shopped a lot of clearance sales. All of my pants were literally dry rotting I had had them so long. I have bought shirts but hate to buy pants because I am always saying I am going to lose weight and then they would be wasted. But it was way past time. I got about 10 pairs of pants, about 10 or 12 shirts, socks, 1 pair shoes, underwear and I spent around $200.
I have been getting boils over and over again. So I checked online and read that some people were having success with turmeric so I bought some and had been sprinkling it in honey and taking it but haven't seen any success so I am now taking a whole spoonful at once. That stuff is nasty btw. I will update if it works.

Happy late Groundhogs day

I have just been feeling overwhelmed lately so haven't been on here much. I went through my myspace page and deleted over half of the friends. I only kept people I actually know or that I really talk to. I have also been removing myself from mailing lists. I don't know how over the years I have gotten on some many but its very daunting to open your email and it say 400 or 500 new messages every day.

Groundhogs day was absolutely beautiful day so I am sure the groundhog saw his shadow :(. It was the sunniest and warmest day I remember in quite a while. Friday night I went to a birthday dinner for my cousin S' daughter J. She was 14. I was amazed at how she and her friend looked. She always seems like a distracted artsy girl at my house but she had heavy black eyeliner on, tight shirt and baggy pants and let's not forget she had written on her arm "pain = beauty". Her friend had a lip piercing. I guess thats the way it goes these days, makes me very glad I don't have little kids. I brought the other daughter T home. We have kept her all weekend now.

On the savings note, I did bring my lunch to work 3 days last week. I am fixing a ham I bought on sale also for dinner tonight so will take some ham sandwiches at least 2 days this week and will fix some pinto beans with ham in them also. I have been shopping at foodlion the last couple days. They have Pepsi products on sale 4- 12 packs for $11, in the part of NC Dr Pepper is a Pepsi product. Foodlion has a couple for $2 off a 12 pack of Dr Pepper so that makes each 12 pack .75. M likes it so I am stocking up on that and diet to take to family functions since almost all of them drink diet Dr Pepper. Also Breyers is on sale b1g1 which if you only buy one makes it 2.60. Foodlion also has a coupon for $2 off breyers so for .60 you get a half gallon ice cream. We love ice cream so I have bought several, if I owned a deep freeze I would have bought more.

You can only get the print pop up once so when it comes up and ask how many copies you want thats when you have to put it. I think I put 10 of each.

$2 off Breyers

$2 off Dr Pepper

My sink drain has been stopped up and I have bought a ton of drain cleaners to no avail. I finally had to take the pipes apart and I don't really want to know what it was that I removed but the drain works now, it was majorly yucky. Last night I seriously hated being a single woman. I would have pawned that job off in a heartbeat. It made me wonder if I would be able to homestead. I figure its going to be at least 3-5 years before I can afford a place and there are so many things I don't know about farming and raising animals that I need to learn in the meantime but I wonder if newbie 40 something single woman can manage on her own. I am still going to aim for it and give it a go though. I thought I might take a few classes at the community college on stuff that I thought might help me.

Happy Groundhog Day! (some tidbits from my email)

* Woodchuck and groundhog are common terms for the same animal, the rodent with the scientific name of Marmota monax. Most closely related to squirrels, woodchucks actually can climb trees and also swim.

* Celestially speaking, Groundhog Day on Feb. 2 is a cross- quarter day, about halfway between the winter solstice in December and the vernal equinox in March, and is celebrated in some cultures as the mid point of winter. It's not far from the time many groundhogs end their hibernation anyway, around the second week of February.

* The groundhog's internal clock is believed to be affected by annual changes in the amount of daylight. Hormonal responses to cyclic changes in production of melatonin, a sleep-related hormone, are thought by some to be the signal to wake up.

* According to legend, if famous Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.
