The Hopeful Review and Giveaway

Buy tickets today to see The Hopeful in theaters ONLY on April 17 & 18th!

Long Synopsis:

William Miller’s faith is in ruins. After miraculously surviving a fierce battle in the War of 1812, Miller questions why God spared him. His search for wisdom leads to an astonishing prophesy — the world is going to end. The Hopeful unfolds as a story of a man burdened with the knowledge of Christ’s return. Miller’s  message resonates with some even as it is scorned by others. When a young woman named Ellen Harmon listens to one of his sermons she is transformed. And through her witness the message begins to take flight. The preaching grows beyond prophecy and develops into a more holistic vision for how Christians should live and worship. We see blossoming the seeds of a new global movement of faith —the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Hopeful is the true story of a community whose lives were transformed as they learn what it means to truly wait for Jesus. This sweeping drama, set in 19th century New England, invites audiences of all ages to imagine how hope can change the world.

My Thoughts

I have often wondered about the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I once went to a health event they sponsored. I really enjoyed learning more about what the Seventh-day Adventist Church believes and how they came into being. I felt like I came away from the movie with more questions than answers. I am not sure how it got from the man predicting the return of Christ to being a whole different kind of movement. You will have to let me know what your thoughts are after you watch the movie.  I can't imagine life without drinking tea :).  I want to learn more about the Adventist movement though so I believe I will keep reading and researching.

His Only Son- Review and Giveaway ends 3-31-2023

Many thanks to Angel Studios for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.

Angel Studios, who brought you THE CHOSEN, is releasing a new film, HIS ONLY SON, which is a film about Abraham and Isaac!
 • Moms, this is a movie you won’t want to miss! There are few things more powerful than a mother's love for her son. Take your family to see this film, and be inspired by Isaac and Sarah's relationship in His Only Son, coming to theaters March 31.
 • For the first time in a feature film, the controversial account of Abraham and Isaac will be brought to life, one that everyone can draw inspiration from.

 • Short Synopsis: After being called on by the Lord, Abraham's faith is tested on his three day journey to sacrifice his son.
 • Long Synopsis: His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

My Thoughts:

I am so excited to share this movie with you. The story of Abraham and Issac is one of my favorites. There is a gospel song about this story line that has been a favorite for many years. This movie puts images to the Bible story so you can envision Abraham and his journey. Sometimes the people around Abraham made me so mad with their responses, of course at times I was left disappointed in Abraham also. But we are all broken people striving to do our best and we often falter. It is easy in hindsight to know the right choices to make and the right things to say and do.  I encourage you to take your family to see this family friendly movie. This would be a great opportunity for a church youth outing to go watch this movie.

My Thoughts
I like movies that I can share with my grandchildren without having to worry about what they are going to see. There isn't any bad language in the movie and only slight violence. Its got quite a bit of humor in the movie.  The kids are like secret agents. I like that it shows both boys and girls as strong smart kids. This was a sequel but other than a few scenes for the most part you don't have to worry about the first movie.  The wonderful people at FlyBy Promotions are giving a copy of this movie to one of my blog readers. Enter below to win but please don't waste your time if you have already won from Flyby in the past 30 days. This is a quick giveaway and ends on Thursday night.  You have 48 hours to respond to the email with your mailing details so I recommend leaving your information on the giveaway entry to so I can send it right it without waiting to hear back from you.

Avator

My boyfriend and I really liked the last 3d movie we saw so we wanted to see more of them. Everyone talked about how awesome Avator was so we decided to go last night. I thought it was an ok movie but not work $11 each to see. The 3D graphics weren't as good as in the last movie. I was offended at their choice of cuss words. To me GD is the most offensive there is and it was used a number of times. I also didn't like the pagan theme running throughout the plot. All in all it wasn't that great and I could have done without seeing it. There are 2 3D movies coming out in March and I am going to research it a little more before we choose our next one. One of them is called How to train your dragon (?) and the other is Alice in Wonderland. I do love Johnny Depp but just from the previews I didnt think it was going to be that great so we shall see.

Review of the Other Boleyn Girl

I won this movie online and could't wait to watch it. I like Natalie Portman and try to watch all of her movies. I really thought from the title it would be more focused on Anne's sister since everyone has heard of Anne. The movie is very loosely based upon actual events. There appears to be quite a bit of poetic license involved with the retelling of history in this movie. The movie starts with the 3 Boleyn siblings playing in a field. Their father is quite power mad and wants to use his children to better his prospects no matter the cost to them. Anne doesn't win Henry the VIII's favor at first site so Mary is offered even though she is married. Anne then comspires against her own sister in ways that I would not have forgiven but Mary has very little backbone in the movie. The costumes are awesome. I loved Ana Torrent as Catherine. She really only had a bit part but made her character both likeable and powerful. Oddly enough her character was the only character in the whole movie that seemed to be controlled, everyone else seemed to stupid to be responsible for anything much less a country. Anne and her schemes result in the death of both Anne and her brother. The movie was ok but I am glad I won it and didn't spend money for it. I can't imagine wanting to see it a second time.
