Anti Nit Spray

I read an article the other day about how there is a new group "super" lice out that are supposed to be hard to kill. I have grandchildren who are in elementary school which is the typical age for lice to affect. Any frequent reader of my blog knows how I prefer a more natural remedy as opposed to chemicals for anything, so I decided to make up my own spray for anti lice and give a bottle to my daughter, my neighbor and one for my house. 

Anti Nit Spray

1 tbsp of conditioner (whatever you have at home is fine)

10 drops tea tree essential oil

10 drops lavender essential oil

10 oz water

mix all the ingredients in a spray bottle ( I use a glass bottle to keep the essential oils from interacting with plastic). Shake well and spray around the head every morning before the kids head out to school. This works as a repellent and not a treatment.

My Thoughts
Tea tree oil isn't one of the most pleasant smelling oils but it is a wonder oil for sure. I love it and like to add a bit of it to about everything I mix up for its healing properties. Tea tree oil is the work horse in the essential oil family. It just does so many awesome things. I like to put a capful in shampoo to help fight dandruff and lice, you can make a spray bottle with tea tree and water to spay around the house for spiders, roaches, ants and fleas.  Almost any skin condition can be treated with tea tree oil. My aunt uses this oil in her acne soap she makes. I just read about using tea tree oil to remove skin tags so I am going to give that a try.

My Thoughts

My favorite essential oil is lavender. I use it for all sorts of things. I personally use it to rub on places where my arthritis is aching and it helps me so much. (just my thoughts, not a medical statement) Any long term readers of my blog know that I love to mix up lotions, scrubs, salves, etc. I decided to use this to make a sugar hand scrub because I am getting ready to do some repotting of plants and I can clean my hands with this afterwards. I prefer sugar to salt because salt is harsher to skin

Coconut and Lavender Sugar Scrub For Hands

1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil

1/2 cup granulated sugar -I like my scrubs to be a bit gritty. You can use less sugar for a softer feel

1/4 teaspoon lavender essential oil

2, 400 IU soft gels of 100% Vitamin E

Mix the coconut, sugar and lavender oil in a jar use a needle and poke a hole in the vitamin E gels and squeeze the oil from those into the sugar mix. Stir until the sugar is saturated with oil. I keep mine in a jar and this amount lasts me about a month if I use it several times a week. This softens my hands, gets the dirt off and also soothes any knicks or scrapes.

My Thoughts
These are 2 of my 3 favorite essential oils. I was really pleased with the amount of oil for the price. I have paid as much for half the oil before. I love peppermint because it makes me feel more alert. I like it in a soap for morning showers and sometimes if I am feeling really tired I will just take a sniff from the bottle as a pick me up. I will give you a word of warning, from my experience, peppermint essential oil will lower your body temperature. So a couple of drops in the tub on a hot summer day feels wonderful, however during the winter, not so great. I once made the mistake of putting some in my bathwater in the winter and honestly thought I would freeze to death.
Lavender is my #1 favorite essential oil. I use it for a bit of everything. This is my go to oil. I put it in salves that I make, soap, sugar scrubs, etc.   Here is something that I have found to be true for my own self and shared with others and they agreed with me. For me, lavender helps with arthritis or nerve pain. I rub the essential oil straight from the bottle on the spot hurting and it really helps me. I am not a doctor, if you decide that you want to try out a natural remedy always contact and speak to your doctor first. If your skin tends to be sensitive you can dilute it in a carrier oil such as olive, shea butter, etc. I find that a warm bath with a couple drops of lavender oil in it, helps me sleep better at night.
I am going to use these oils to make some sugar scrubs and also some soaps.  Will post recipes and pictures later on when I make them.
