Decorating for Christmas

Our family tradition has always been that we decorate the tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. I thought this year I might let these guys take over for us.

Happy Thankgiving

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:18

The things I am grateful for this year are:
1. Salvation: the most awesome free gift I ever received.
2. Family: No matter how much they get on my nerves at times I love both my girls dearly and there aren't words to describe how much I love my grandchildren.
3. Friends: I have a very dear circle of friends that I can call upon when I am troubled. There are a number of family members in this category also. Isn't it nice when your friends are also your family. You can't help if you are related to them but that you have become friends means you like them regardless.

Thanksgiving quiz

I found this quiz and let me tell you its hard. I got 11 out of 20 and that was mostly by guessing. Its not stuff you normally know about Thanksgiving.

review Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick Candle

No fireplace, no problem. Breathe a sigh of relief because the new Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candle has you covered. Bring the calming crackle of a burning fire into your home anytime of year with 80 hours of "ahhhhhhhh.
I was recently sent a set of 3 Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick Candles to try out and review. I loved them. I am a candle freak and these were tall heavy glass containers that burn a long time.
Available in nine premium scents, these tranquil candles are specially designed with a wooden wick to recreate the ambiance and sound of a crackling fire indoors. Offering a brilliant range of everyday fragrances, Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles can help inspire a scent and design transformation in your home. Each candle is in a clear glass jar with a Home Collection label and a wooden removable lid.

Made of a soy blend that releases fragrances as the wooden wick burns up to 80 hours. Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles can be purchased at your local Walmart in fragrances like Green Tea Citrus, Pomegranate Mango, Cranberry Pear, Orange Honeycomb, Rosewood Plum and Willow Blossom; as well as seasonal scents that include Anjou Pear Spice, Gingersnap Vanilla, and Yumberry Sangria.

For review I received Anjou Pear Spice, Cranberry Pear, and Rosewood Plum. Anjou Pear Spice is a light sweetness of fresh fruit lingering in a comforting blend of spices. Cranberry Pear is a snap of cranberries blended with the crisp scent of pear. Rosewood Plum is scented with the warmth of rosewood harmonizing with the rich sweetness of plum.
My aunt who was visiting immediately wanted to smell the Rosewood Plum. She loves the rosewood fragrances. My favorite of this set was the Anjou Pear Spice. I like spice scents but I am going to have to go buy a Gingersnap Vanilla to try out. It just sounds yummy. The Anjou Pear spice is s very light scent that just hints the air with fragrance but isn't overwhelming. You wouldn't go chasing through the house trying to track the scent down, it just gently whiffs through the air and makes you smile.
The candles come with a wooden lid that I used as a coaster to sit the candle on. I don't know if thats what its for but its how I used it :). I thought the square wooden wick was just the neatest thing though. So you can smell the wood burning! How genius is that! I haven't ever had a candle with a square wick.

If you want to find out some more information you can find out at Febreze on Facebook or Febreze on Twitter.

Disclosure: I was provided with three Febreze Home Collection Candles and a $15 Walmart gift card from Febreze and MyBlogSpark. The opinions here are mine alone, and not influenced by the sponsor in any fashion.

Lesson on Pumpkin Carving

Found this link and was amazed. It must be wonderful to have such talent. Can you make your pumpkin like his :).
On that note here is a very cool lesson for youth during this time.

How a Christian is like a Pumpkin

A lady recently being baptized was asked by a co-worker what it was like to be a Christian. She replied, "It's like being a pumpkin:
God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you may have gotten from the other pumpkins.
Then he cuts the top off and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc.
Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

1. Take a pumpkin. "You aren't a pumpkin, but all of us are something like one. God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you may have gotten from the other pumpkins." Talk about how a pumpkin is like us: it has an outside and an inside. The outside is what people see. The inside is like our soul or our heart. A pumpkin left to itself will soon rot and die. We will die some day too."

2. Carve out eyes and a small "o" shaped mouth. As you make the holes and pull out the pieces of rind, ask people what they see inside (yucky stuff). "This is what we look like to others and what we are like when are hearts are not changed. The hearts of men are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live (Ecclesiastes 9:3). How can we get rid of this icky stuff?"

3. "God is the only one who can change our heart. But in order for God to change our heart we must become open to him." Carve an opening in the top of the pumpkin big enough to put your hand through. You might want to quote Revelation 3:20: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

4. Put in your hand and pull out the insides. "God scoops out all the yucky stuff inside of us. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, impurity, and greed." Talk about the cross and how Jesus was willing to become messy for us, so that we might be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36:25b-27).

5. "But if we leave a pumpkin with just the insides taken out, then it's just hollow. We need to have a light inside that will truly make us alive! Jesus said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.' Add a light to the inside of the pumpkin. "When Jesus lives inside of you, you can glow! You will want to be kind and honest. You will want to please God, to help others, and to tell other people about your Friend and Lord."

6. At this point you might want to carve the mouth into a smile! "God carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

Reason's dogs hate their owners.

I confess, I am one of those people who think dog outfits are cute. Are you the type of owner in this video?

The purchase price

There once was a man named George Thomas, pastor in a small New England town. One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit.
Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor Thomas began to speak….
“I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright.

I stopped the lad and asked, “What do you have there, son?”

“Just some old birds,” came the reply.

“What are you going to do with them?” I asked.

“Take ‘em home and have fun with ‘em,” he answered. “I’m gonna tease ‘em and pull out their feathers to make ‘em fight. I’m gonna have a real good time..”

“But you’ll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do then?”

“Oh, I got some cats,” said the little boy. “They like birds. I’ll take ‘em to them.”

The pastor was silent for a moment. “How much do you want for those birds, son?”

“Huh??!!! Why, you don’t want them birds, mister. They’re just plain old field birds. They don’t sing. They ain’t even pretty!”

“How much?” the pastor asked again. The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, “$10?”

The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy’s hand. In a flash, the boy was gone. The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free. Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor began to tell this story:

One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting. “Yes, sir, I just caught a world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn’t resist. Got ‘em all!”

“What are you going to do with them?” Jesus asked.

Satan replied, “Oh, I’m gonna have fun! I’m gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I’m gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I’m really gonna have fun!”

“And what will you do when you are done with them?” Jesus asked.

“Oh, I’ll kill ‘em,” Satan glared proudly.

“How much do you want for them?” Jesus asked.

“Oh, you don’t want those people. They ain’t no good. Why, you’ll take them and they’ll just hate you. They’ll spit on you, curse you and kill you. You don’t want those people!!”

“How much? He asked again.

Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, “All your blood, tears and your life.”

Jesus said, “DONE!” Then He paid the price.

The pastor picked up the cage and walked from the pulpit.

Then Sings My Soul-Dogs of Glory

I read a Joyce Meyer's book this week Woman to Woman and it deeply blessed me. I came away from the book with the revelation that Jesus died that I might have life and have it more abundantly not that I might be so miserable. I have wallowed for years in unhappiness due to one thing or another but now I am clinging to the thought that I am meant to be happy.

I found this cute little song made me happy and I had to smile watching it.

I did some great deals at the drug stores today.
Went to Walgreen's and they have the new lemon raspberry halls on sale for $1 and it prints a $1 register reward plus the latest edition of all you magazine has a 75 cents off coupon for the same product in it so you will actually make 75 cents on this deal. Todays coupons has a coupon in it for $1 off 2 bags so you could still get 2 bags for nothing after the rr prints out. I have a couple more deals I plan to do at Walgreen's this week but had to wait until I clipped the coupons for them. Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste 4.2 oz or Oral-B Advantage 1-2-3 Toothbrush $2.49 = $1.50 RR Use the $1/1 Crest Pro-Health coupon from the 9/26 PG or use the $0.75/1 Oral-B coupon from the 10/10 PG) I only have the coupon from 10/10 so mine will be .24 for the toothbrush.
Final cost as low as FREE!

Went to CVS and scanned my card and a coupon printed out for 99 cents off brachs candy corn and it was on sale for .99 so that made it free.

I also got some more free toothpaste. You should never have to buy this as often as there are deals out there. Colgate Total Advanced or Enamel Strength Toothpaste 4 oz. $2.99 = $2.99 Each (Limit 2). There is a coupon in the All You magazine plus todays paper or here so this is a money maker.

I also did a great deal for Quaker instant oatmeal. I printed 2 coupons for $2 off from here and it was on sale for 2/$5 so the coupons made it $1 plus there was $2 ecb (limit of 1) back on it so I made a dollar on this deal.

BTW these make great gift ideas to put in gift baskets for the holidays. I usually collect samples all year and give them to the elderly, my girls and teenagers. All three groups love to get these type baskets.

Also grabbed this coupon from the Parade magazine in today's paper. 2 FREE 5×7 HP Photo Greeting Cards Coupon (Valid a new HP Kiosks– located in Walmart) I got 3 Parades in my paper for some reason so I have coupons to get 6 cards free.

Dove Damage Therapy Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner Sample this is from Costco and the first line asks for your Costco membership number but it doesn't have an astrick so you can order it without one.

The Lord's Ballgame

found this will surfing blogs. I have no idea who wrote it. I googled it but never found it attributed to anyone. So here it is.

The Lord's Ballgame

Freddy and the Lord stood by to observe a baseball game. The Lord's team was playing Satan's team. The Lord's team was at bat, the score was tied zero to zero, and it was the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs.

They continued to watch as a batter named Love stepped up to the plate. Love swung at the first pitch and hit a single, because "Love never fails."

The next batter was named Faith, who also got a single because Faith works with Love.

The next batter up was named Godly Wisdom. Satan wound up and threw the first pitch. Godly Wisdom looked it over and let it pass: ball one. Three more pitches and Godly Wisdom walked because he never swings at what Satan throws.

The bases were now loaded. The Lord then turned to Freddy and told him He was now going to bring in His star player.

Up to the plate stepped Grace. Freddy said, "He sure doesn't look like much!"

Satan's whole team relaxed when they saw Grace. Thinking he had won the game, Satan wound up and fired his first pitch. To the shock of everyone, Grace hit the ball harder than anyone had ever seen! But Satan was not worried; his center fielder let very few get by. He went up for the ball, but it went right through his glove, hit him on the head and sent him crashing on the ground; the roaring crowds went wild as the ball continued over the fence for a home run!

The Lord's team won!

The Lord then asked Freddy if he knew why Love, Faith and Godly Wisdom could get on base but couldn't win the game. Freddy answered that he didn't know why.

The Lord explained, "If your love, faith and wisdom had won the game, you would think you had done it by yourself. Love, Faith and Wisdom will get you on base, but only My Grace can get you Home"

For by Grace are you saved, it is a gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory ; no good thin will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11

Life update

I haven't been updating lately because my life has been in a huge turmoil. My car blew up so I had to quit my job. Since I had no job I decided to move back to North Carolina because I have family there and its a lot easier to get around. They have public transportation plus there is a lot of local stuff to do. My oldest daughter and her boyfriend moved out here also. We all applied for city housing (sort of like HUD but not quite) and are on the waiting list now. I have applied for unemployment and am waiting to hear if they are going to let me have it. It has to be reviewed since I quit my job. I have actually interviewed for another state job and if I would be offered it at a good salary I would move back to WV and stay with a friend until I got paid and could afford a place of my own.
I am missing my grandkids like crazy. I broke up with the boyfriend because after 2 years we weren't going anywhere. I honestly believe he won't ever marry anyone. He was an awesome guy but I don't have 20 years to wait for him to make up his mind. I am spending a lot of time studying the bible and praying. I am staying with my aunt. Thankfully she has a big house since its me, her son and his 4 kids, 1 other granddaughter and her and her husband. Its hard to find alone time. I haven't gotten to go to church since I have been here because I have no car. I am hoping I get an apartment soon and I can walk to church at least.

Some nice freebies

I love taking pictures with my digital camera I got using my swagbuck Amazon dollars. I like offers that let me print them for nothing. Here is a great offer from Kodak that lets you print a small 5x7 photobook for only $1.99 shipping. The book is free. My granddaughter loves photo albums. I am not sure if this will be a present for her, my mother, my daughter or the other mamaw yet. If it comes by next week when I am hoping to go visit my mother, then I will take it to her. She hasn't ever seen her only great-grandson in person.

I also ordered me another years subscription to Woman's Day, this link was working earlier but the free mags go fast so I don't know if its still good.

Shadow Puppets

Do you remember being a kid and making shadow puppets? My cousins and I were fascinated with this. We got to the point we could make rabbits, ducks and a couple of other animals. What all can you do with shadow puppets? I saw this video and was amazed. This man is really talented.

Babcock State Park

My boyfriend and I have have made a couple trips now to Babcock State Park. Neither of us have ever been before so it was a unique experience. We are trying to do more of the tourist things in our own state. The first day we went was on Saturday evening and we got there just after 5pm. They have a grist mill there but it closes at 5 so we didn't get to see it. The next day we got there early and was able to tour the mill. They do need to replace the floors in it though. I am sure its original flooring but its quite weak in some places and if not repaired soon there will be an accident. Also it has a lot of mill equipment sitting around on the floors and if you look in the handout it tells what the equipment is but I think it would be better to have it labeled. They actually grind corn meal there at the mill, they weren't grinding the day we were there because the water levels were too low they said but we were able to buy some corn meal they had on hand. I made corn bread as soon as I got home and it was honestly hands down the best cornbread I ever ate. It also stayed soft longer and didn't get hard setting out like it normally would have. I let a few other people try it and they agreed it was amazing tasting. Fresh is better than chemically processed from the store. The recipe I used is here.

We did some fishing but all we caught were tiny baby bluegills. I would like to spend some time exploring the trails. It is very beautiful there. Here are some pictures from our 2 trips there. This is the lake.

Here are a couple the fish we caught. My boyfriend caught the second one and I caught the first one. I didn't put mine on the ground, he jumped off the pole and I had to chase him around to catch him to put him back in the water :). I promise you they were much smaller than they look in these pictures. I have seen minnows bigger. We are catch and release people so these naturally are back in their home to grow some more.

This is a dragonfly I saw hovering around so I snapped a picture.

Evan Roberts

The 1904 Welsh Revival moved a nation. One of the most famous men from that revival was Evan Roberts. Evan had led a life following Christ up to this point but still felt led to draw closer. One night he was woken from his sleep and led into a deep communion with God for hours. This experience was to continue every evening for the next few months until he went away to the school at Newcastle Emlyn. 2 weeks after arriving at school he went to a revival and received a fresh Baptism of the Spirit. Sometimes we all need to refreshed in our walk. Cares of life and daily living make us tired and we need to be renewed. Look at walk God accomplished because Evan was willing to respond.
Within a month he felt compelled to share this message of the reality of God and the possibility of complete forgiveness of sins with his home youth group at Moriah Loughor.

Summing up the message in 4 parts, Evan pressed it home to the astonished church

1. Confess all known sin

2. Deal with and get rid of anything ‘doubtful’ in your life

3. Be ready to obey the Holy Spirit instantly

4. Confess Christ publicly

By the end of the last week over 60 responded. By the end of the second week Evan had already started on a whirl-wind tour of the South Wales valleys with his team of 5 girl singers and within a year or so 100,000 converts were said to be added to the Welsh Church.
I encourage you to spend some time in prayer, read the Word and see what God wants to accomplish in your life.

Taylor Made

On July 3rd, we all went to Fayetteville to the weekend celebration for the 4th and saw Taylor Made. They are a local WV band that has been on the Nashville charts for new music. You can tell by watching them, that they love to perform. Some people work to make it in country music and then retire once they make a lot of money and some stick it out for the long haul. You can imagine that the ones that stick it out are the ones who love performing and need to make music to satisfy their souls. Here are a couple of videos I made. Keeper of the cage is one of my favorite songs and the Billie Jean video has some crowd clips. One boy started some kind of weird convulted dancing and there was a little girl dancing who was absolutely adorable. There is a lot of static I think because we were so close to the speakers.
