His Only Son- Review and Giveaway ends 3-31-2023

Many thanks to Angel Studios for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.

Angel Studios, who brought you THE CHOSEN, is releasing a new film, HIS ONLY SON, which is a film about Abraham and Isaac!
 • Moms, this is a movie you won’t want to miss! There are few things more powerful than a mother's love for her son. Take your family to see this film, and be inspired by Isaac and Sarah's relationship in His Only Son, coming to theaters March 31.
 • For the first time in a feature film, the controversial account of Abraham and Isaac will be brought to life, one that everyone can draw inspiration from.

 • Short Synopsis: After being called on by the Lord, Abraham's faith is tested on his three day journey to sacrifice his son.
 • Long Synopsis: His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

My Thoughts:

I am so excited to share this movie with you. The story of Abraham and Issac is one of my favorites. There is a gospel song about this story line that has been a favorite for many years. This movie puts images to the Bible story so you can envision Abraham and his journey. Sometimes the people around Abraham made me so mad with their responses, of course at times I was left disappointed in Abraham also. But we are all broken people striving to do our best and we often falter. It is easy in hindsight to know the right choices to make and the right things to say and do.  I encourage you to take your family to see this family friendly movie. This would be a great opportunity for a church youth outing to go watch this movie.

Buy tickets today to see HIS ONLY SON in theaters March 31st!

What I am watching Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime

I have been watching more streaming shows lately than I normally do. Usually I watch maybe 2 shows a month.  I never miss an episode of Young Sheldon or Call Me Kat. Jim Parson works on both shows. I have liked him since I saw him on Judging Amy and I loved him on Big Bang Theory. I also really like Mayim Bialik. Watched her in Blossom years ago, and she has a Youtube channel

HULU

Will Trent – It’s a new TV Show.  I love Ramón Rodríguez's accent. I hope this show lasts for years.
Call Me Kat- this is where I watch as opposed to Fox.
How I met Your Father- I did not like how I met your mother but this is ok. I like Hilary Duff but am not fond of Kim Cattrall.

Amazon Prime-
The Pretender- I watched this years ago but am enjoying rewatching it. I am currently on episode 20 of Season 1 so have quite a ways to go.

Chicken and dumplings

One of my favorite foods is chicken and dumplings. I could eat dumplings every day. I have tried and tried and never successfully made good dumplings until today. Usually my dumplings disintegrate or become one giant clump of dumpling. But this time they worked out.

I boiled a bunch of chicken legs until so tender the meat was falling off bone. I added a couple cans of broth and a scoop of powdered bouillon and a quart jar full of water to the legs.  Once the legs were fully cooked, I put them in a bowl to tear the meat off. I saved the bones in a bag in the freezer to make bone broth with later on.

I mixed up 3 cups self rising flour, 1 beaten egg, 1/2 c water and dash of salt. Once it was blended together I pinched off quarter size balls and dropped carefully into the broth. I did probably 8-10 at a time. I let the dumplings cook about 8 minutes then would spoon out into a bowl with some broth in it and added more dumplings to broth. Once they were all cooked I added the chicken meat and the dumplings back into broth to be stirred together and served.

2022 update

Its been ages since I posted. 2022 was a horrible year for me. My mother died, 2 out of 3 of my life long best friends died, 2 of my dogs passed, one cat, I had 2 heart attacks. So many disappointments trying to buy a house, finally found a house though that I love. I can't even remember the rest of the horrible stuff. Years that end with 2 are always awful for me. So glad its gone and praying that 2023 is so much better.

this is my mom with my daughter years ago.

Update on Goals

1.  Well I have been on the low carb diet for about 6 days now. I can feel a real difference in the pain in my body with the exception of my knees. But since they need replaced I guess there isn't a lot that the diet can do for that pain. Hopefully though the diet will help me lose weight so I can get replacement surgery.

2. I bought some herb seeds to start indoors so that will be for my garden and more natural lifestyle so 2 goals in one :)

3. We bought a 72 4 people emergency food bucket at Wal-Mart so that went into our preps. Also got a big pack of AA batteries that were on clearance at Lowes so put them up also.

That's all that I have managed toward my goals so far this year.  I will close out with a picture of Tinkerbell,  one of my dogs being all snazzy in her jean jacket.

Goals for 2021

GOALS FOR 2021

  1.  Less Pain and better health- I am in constant pain daily. I have tried every herbal recommendation you can think of. Turmeric, kradom, moringa etc Nothing has worked. I need both knees replaced and maybe surgery for carpal tunnel in my wrists. I want to work on my health as a whole for 2021. I need to lose weigh so I can have knee replacement done.
  2. More Natural Lifestyle- I want to start living a lifestyle closer to my dream. I have always wanted to homestead and make my own salves, vinegars etc. This year I am going to start even if its small. I did at least finally start making some vanilla
  3. Garden and preserve food- I want to try some container gardening using heirloom seeds and I would like to preserve what I grow somehow. I do have a dehydrator now so I can at least dry food if I am not able to can it.
  4. Have a better home- I want to live in a place that is a better home even if it means fixing up this dump. I would much prefer to live in a different place with a little bit of land if possible but in the mean time I am going to work on making this life not so difficult
  5. Get a decent vehicle. Currently I have no vehicle, The transmission went out in my Toyota Rav and we are borrowing my ex's durango. Mandi needs to get the blazer she inherited from Dad legal and on the road.
  6. Start recording Youtube videos for my channel and being part of that community. I love watching other peoples videos and would like to get more involved with followers.
  7. Try out more recipes. For years I have collected recipes and yet most of them go untried. I want to start cooking more and experimenting with flavors to be more the person I see as my self. I want to be the homey type who cooks her own foods etc. I have 2 instant cookers and have never tried either of them out.
  8. Be more generous. I want to share more with others. Give gifts to brighten their lives.
  9. Get more prepared. I have always been sort of a preppie person but this year has really showed me that I need to be more prepared for disasters.
Today was rainy and mid 40s weather-wise.

So long 2020 and some vanilla recipes.

2020 has been a hard year for the whole world it seems. I didn't even realize I hadn't blogged at all this year. I know I am not the same person I was when 2020 started. I don't think I have entered a 10 contests this year even. I am more tired than ever in my life.

I did make some vanilla sugar the other day and start some vanilla extract. My daughter is now in love with the sugar and thinks she may not be able to use regular sugar again lol.

Vanilla Sugar

2 Vanilla beans
2 cups sugar

so easy to make. Just slice the beans open and scrape the seeds out. Mix into the 2 cups of sugar. Put in a jar with the bean pods. Shake until mixed. Takes 2 days before the sugar is ready to use. Store in a cool dark spot. Every time you see it you can give it a shake and as you use the sugar you can just add more sugar to the bean pods and keep using them until you no longer get any scent when you open the jar.

Vanilla Extract
Jar
waxed paper square
Vodka
4 vanilla pods

I cut the pods into half and sort of split them open. Put into the jar. I used about a quart jar.  Add vodka to within 1 inch of top so you have room to shake and mix. put the waxed paper square on top of jar and screw in lid. For the first 2-3 weeks you will shake the jar daily. Then for the next 3 months shake at least a couple of times a week. The longer you let it sit the stronger the vanilla flavoring will be. The best vanilla sits for a year to 2 years. Store in a cool dark place in your pantry. I plan to let mine sit for 1 year so by Christmas 2021 it should be ready. I am going to give it as gifts next Christmas.

Going Low Carb and a Chauffle.

Its been months and months since I have blogged. Been really depressed and just a lot of health problems. I was trying to get an MRI for my back and my insurance required physical therapy. I went to the place I went before but this time I got a guy named Jamal? and he hurt me really bad. I have knots across my lower back and he decided it would be a good idea to try to press these knots out. I won't lie, I burst into tears and he still wouldn't stop. I cried for about the 5-10 minutes he kept working on my back. It was horrible and hurt me for about 5 weeks. I just can't complete the therapy because its just too painful so no MRI.

Then Sept 13th (Friday the 13th) I had what the dr's called a cardiac event. Spent 3 days in the hospital and had to have a heart catherization. They found nothing wrong so still no clue what happened. I did manage to lose 8 lbs while in hospital and I had lost some before going in. So all told I lost about 21 lbs. I decided that was a great time to get back in gear.

I am trying low carb because the last time I went low carb it really helped with all the body pain and I felt a lot better. Something that is new since the last time I did low carb is everyone is making something called a chauffle.  So I ordered a  Dash Mini Waffle maker on Amazon. They have apparently went up on price lately due to being so popular. I picked a pink one for 14.99 and it was on backorder for a week.

I like eating sandwiches and this is going to be awesome.  Basically a chauffle is 1 egg and 3/4 cup shredded cheese. I used colby jack for mine.  Stir it all till blended.  Put 1/2 the mix on the waffle maker and close lid.  Takes 3-5 minutes per chauffle..   I made 2 and used them like a bun for hamburger. It didn't taste eggy at all but was so good. You can make them sweet or savory. Tons of recipes out there. So excited.

Planet Fitness and Current Health

Every since I have moved back to WV, I have wanted a Planet Fitness to be near me. Who doesn't love $10 a month gym membership? Finally they have put one in about 5 minutes from my job. Only now my health is pretty awful. Most days I can hardly walk and I am stooped over little a 90 year old so I was thinking maybe I wouldn't be able to get any use out of a membership.  They are having a new promo that you can join for $1 so I started reading about it. I found out they have a Black Card Membership for $21.99 that I didn't know about. It offers tanning (not interested) hydromassage (now my interest is going up) massage chairs (sounding better and better) then I get to something called Total Body Enhancement. So I had to google to find out about that. Basically its red light therapy and vibration. Tons of links that say yay and tons that say nay. I am going to join just so I can try this out and then I will know yay or nay for myself.

I am super excited hoping it will help with the back pain, and inflammation in my body. I am going for the first time tomorrow so I will up date in a month to let you know how its working for me.

Newly Updated Contest Listing

(Be aware that some of these links I post may be referral links to earn me extra entries)
I love to enter contests and sweepstakes on the Internet. I keep looking for an easier way to do them without having to pay so I think I am just going to set up a webpage so I can sort them by ending date easily.  Pick how many entry options you want to enter, the more you enter the greater the odds of winning.  The majority of my giveaways are book release tours because they usually give Amazon gift certs as the prize and that's my favorite prize.  There are a ton that want you to subscribe to newsletters I usually don't subscribe so don't get credit for that option. Be aware that you will get a lot of email. You have to check your email frequently because normally most contests only give you 24 hours to respond or they pick someone else.  Most are short entry periods but sometimes they are months long.
It can take up to 6 weeks to get your prize, Save the email notification you won and if you haven't gotten your prize in 6 weeks, email the person again to check on the prize. Most prizes won't ship to a PO Box
NO CHEATING AND BE POLITE
To increase your odds make sure you have the following entry means(I would appreciate any follows)
  1. Twitter (follow me for contests that I tweet and may not post here.)  A lot of contests want Twitter follows but Twitter limits how many you can follow so I go through about every 3 months and delete any old ones I don't currently need to follow - like authors from previous giveaways.
  2.  Instagram ( follow me
  3. Pinterest (follow me)
  4. Bloglovin (follow me)
  5. Facebook (like my page) usually you just have to visit and sometimes comment. Its against Facebook rules to require a like but some do.
  6. Goodreads (follow me)  there are a ton of books on my want to read list that I really don't want to read and would never read but hey its an entry. Sometimes you also get an entry for following the author on Goodreads.
  7. Bookbub- once again beware because every author you follow, if they publish a new book you will get a notification email)

West Virginia Day June 20th 2018

Happy 155th Birthday to my favorite state of West Virginia.   West Virginia is the only state created during the Civil War. The Northwest counties of Virginia voted against secession but were outvoted by the rest of Virginia so we formed our own state.  West Virginia is an outdoor paradise with many lakes, and rivers for fishing, water skiing, and white water rafting. You can go ATV'ing, climb mountains or zipline. So plan your next vacation in my lovely home state of West Virginia.

Here are some pictures I have taken over the years of West Virginia.

What I say:
I really wanted to try these because there isn't a good lighting situation over my kitchen sink. However I was just not happy with the whole deal from start to finish. It took almost 2 weeks to get the lights. The lighting wasn't very bright at all and didn't last that long. The ones I put over my kitchen sink needed new batteries within a week of using them.  It was a good price for them but I would rather pay more and get a better quality product.  Of course there is the possibility that I just got a bad batch because they got great reviews on Amazon.

I suggest you order a set of your own to try and see how they work for you since they are only $7.99

Pneumonia

So far this year isn't shaping up as great as I had hoped it would be. Its been super cold and snowy a lot. My water lines were froze for days.  The toilet has been frozen and then got backed up and have to have a new line put in.  A man from my hometown community died. He was just the nicest man and always smiling and so friendly. I was very disappointed because the person responsible for his arrangements was selfish and lazy and did absolutely nothing. Not even graveside services. This man was a veteran who earned a purple heart and touched so many lives and yet nothing was done to show respect for him. Just dumped in the ground. Fortunately a friend of his did bug the funeral home enough that he found out when he was being buried and showed up at least. I thought surely the church he had attended for my whole life would at least have a memorial service but they did nothing.

I was wheezing pretty badly the past couple of days but other than that I felt the same as usual. Yesterday at work I started to notice some pain and discomfort on my right lung side. The longer the day went the worse it felt. I hadn't been sick at all but it felt like I have felt in the past when I had pneumonia. Sure enough, after work I went to MedExpress and got a chest xray and I have pneumonia in the right lung. So I took off work today to rest and I do feel slightly better. Not as much pain but still tired.  Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Colder than Alaska

So far this year has been colder than most. It has been down to -2 and the windchill has been -17. Its so cold that my water has been froze for days. The roads are slick as snot.  Even the Kanawha river has froze over. People have been posting pictures of driving 4 wheelers on it. Of course I expect one of them is going to end up crashing through the ice.  Even the water at work froze over yesterday.  Today it is up to 9. The weather channel claims that by Monday its going to start being in the 30s for the next week. I am hoping every thing melts up so I can get the laundry and the dishes all done up.

Its been pretty sad, I have heard of at least 2 people being froze solid and a few pets. One poor dog was chained in his dog house but the fool owner didn't have a lick of bedding in it or nothing. I have worried about the stray cats I feed. I can't bring them in because the dogs aren't good dogs when it comes to cats. I rigged up some tarps around the porch to block wind and then i cut a whole in a storage tote and put blankets in it for them. I read that they need extra food when its so cold so I have been giving them a bunch of dry food but also canned cat food, tuna etc..So far it appears to be working, They are still alive and active after about 10 days of this deep deep freeze.

Starting over again, yet again

Its been ages since I posted. My health has just been so awful. I feel like I am in constant intense pain and barely able to move most days. I am so tired of living this way so I am going to make some health changes for the upcoming year. One of the biggest is that I am going back on the low carb diet. I really need to lose weight but that's not my reasoning for choosing this diet. When I am on the low carb diet after about 4 days or so, I am almost totally pain free. All the swelling in my hands, feet and legs is gone. The only place that hurts is my lower back and hip but they are way more bearable.  And since its a new year, my insurance starts again so I can go to the chiropractor again for 12 visits. I am going to go once a week and then when those visits are done then I am going to go every 2 weeks since I will have to pay myself.

So today is the first day for me even though its not the new year yet.  So far I have only had water to drink. I didn't really have time for breakfast so I snacked on string cheese. Lunch is cheeseburger salad.

Cheeseburger Salad
3/4 cup cooked crumbled hamburger
baby spinach
tomato
cucumber
shredded cheese
ranch dressing

I didn't put amounts because it really depends on how much of each you want in there. I don't like lettuce so I prefer to put baby spinach in my salad and I like a lot of tomato and cucumber. Then I sprinkled shredded cheddar cheese over the whole thing and add a dollop of dressing. Yummy and filling since it has meat and veggies.

Say a prayer for me that I can stick with this considering how much it helps my health.

LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME Sample Pack Review

Let The Little Children Come aims to provide effective gospel tracts and evangelism tools and resources for children. It is the hope that these tools and resources will help you in conveying the powerful gospel message to children. The gospel tracts are all specially designed to capture and hold the attention of children, while not distracting them from the core message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

My Thoughts on the Let the Little Children Come sampler pack:

I have taught girls club, Sunday school, youth groups, etc. and I loved this pack.  Honestly I think it would be an awesome idea to buy 10 sample packs just to have all the different gospel tracts etc and use them for a Vacation Bible School setting. I looked at the prices for the sample packs versus the price per individual bundle and I don't believe there is any price savings by buying the sampler pack, I just like that all the different gospel tracts are in one plastic sleeve (which is very sturdy and handy) so that way you could label each set per child versus having to separate the individual purchases up. I had fun making the bracelet, reading the various pop up gospel tracts etc with the kids. Just an awesome idea for any church organization although you could even use the sampler kits in a homeschooling situation. Another really neat idea with gospel tracts is to include them in candy bags at Halloween. Fewer and fewer children are being exposed to the Gospel these days. Parents aren't taking them to Sunday School like they used to when I was growing up. So I like to put a couple of neat gospel evangelism tracts about salvation in the bags of Halloween candy I give out so they can look them over.

I have always wanted a French coffee press because I have heard they make the coffee just taste so much more flavorful. After trying out my new coffee press I can agree with that statement. And a big plus is that even if the electric goes out, if you have a way to heat water, you can have coffee using the French press. My only real issue was the apparently they have ran out of the extra screens (it did say limited number) and I didn't get those. Extra is always nice, but what I have worked just fine.

My Thoughts
I have been reading so much lately on journaling and reading the Bible. I really love the way this Bible is set up so that I can journal right beside the verses. The pages are just so beautiful that they really classify as artwork. I have pinned a ton of pages about Bible journaling so I can't wait to get started on my copy of this book, except that its just so gorgeous that I hate to mark it up with my writing. This would make an excellent gift and it comes in a lovely hardcase that matches the Bible.

Enter to win a copy of this beautiful Bible.
