Fibromyalgia and Magnesium and Energy Levels

Lately it seems that Fibromyalgia has taken over my life. This week has been one of the most painful since I was diagnosed. I live in a rural area and don't have access to a specialist on Fibro so mostly its a learn on the Internet and try it out treatment for me. All that being said I wanted to share one success story from my research. I have been taking magnesium malate since October so I feel that is long enough to judge that it has worked for me.

Anyone who has Fibro or knows someone with it, understands the overwhelming fatigue associated with fibromyalgia. I googled and read and googled and read and over and over heard mention of magnesium helping with fibromyalgia. So I decided to give it a try. I first tried a different form of magnesium and it helped but I read that magnesium malate was better absorbed into the body so I tried a different. Really between the 2 I can't tell much difference as long as I remember to take it. I take 1 tablet a day although you can take more.  After a week of taking this magnesium, I could feel a difference. I have way more energy. It isn't like the energy you get when you drink an energy drink, I am not bouncing all over the place, my heart isn't racing, etc.. But I do feel more like a real person again. I have the energy to go about my daily life again.
An unexpected effect was that once I started taking the magnesium, my monthly female problems greatly improved. May of 2015 I was hospitalized and given blood transfusions because my iron count was way too low. For 8 years I have had issues with bleeding heavily and for weeks at a time. The doctors decided in June that we were finally going to do a hysterectomy. The doctor and I had an issue and I stopped seeing him so that my surgery didn't happen. But once I took magnesium that bleeding stopped. If I remember to take the magnesium every day (not going to lie, sometimes I forget for a week or 2) then I don't even have a period that month and if I do it is way lighter and shorter. I prefer not having them so I try to remember to take the pill.  My daughter has had horrible period cramps her whole life. The doctors say she has endometriosis, so I told her to try the pills out. She started taking the first magnesium pills I ordered and now she takes them every day because they stopped her cramps.

How often have you lost your joy in something by taking your eyes off your own life and looking at what has happened in someone else's life. Comparison is the death of contentment. My Thoughts:
My local Kroger store only had 3 flavors. Pistacchio, Capppuccino and Cioccolato.  I thought the one I would like the most from those flavors would be the Cioccolato. Anti Nit Spray

I read an article the other day about how there is a new group "super" lice out that are supposed to be hard to kill. I have grandchildren who are in elementary school which is the typical age for lice to affect. Any frequent reader of my blog knows how I prefer a more natural remedy as opposed to chemicals for anything, so I decided to make up my own spray for anti lice and give a bottle to my daughter, my neighbor and one for my house. 

Anti Nit Spray

1 tbsp of conditioner (whatever you have at home is fine)

10 drops tea tree essential oil

10 drops lavender essential oil

10 oz water

mix all the ingredients in a spray bottle ( I use a glass bottle to keep the essential oils from interacting with plastic). Shake well and spray around the head every morning before the kids head out to school. This works as a repellent and not a treatment.

Making Lasagna with #Ragu4You

I recently got a #ComfortVox box in the mail from Influenster.com. It was full of awesome free samples and coupons. One of those coupons was a for a free jar of Ragu. Today I am going to share my recipe for lasagna that we made with Ragu. I made 2 pans full of lasagna, one for us and one for my neighbor. She recently had a baby and that makes her #5 so I thought I would help her make dinner one night for the family.

I grew up with my grandmother and everyone I knew using Ragu. It was years before I knew it wasn't the only pasta sauce out there (lol), When I got married I continued to use Ragu. Then I stopped making pasta for a long time because my ex hated any form of pasta and it just was a big hassle to deal with making something he hated. When we separated I think I made lasagna 3 times a week for 6 months :).

I am sure everyone knows how to make lasagna but here is my quick and simple recipe. Warning, it is very cheesy so if you aren't a cheese fan you will have to make changes.

1 box of lasagna noodles. (it usually takes around 9 long noodles for each pan) I used oven ready
16 oz of cottage cheese ( we only like Kroger brand for some reason)
8 oz of finely shredded mozzarella cheese

sauce
1 jar of your favorite flavor Ragu
14 oz can of petite diced cut tomatoes
1/2 lb of hamburger meat

Sauce
I brown the hamburger and drain the grease off of it. Then I add a jar of Ragu and a can of petite cut diced tomatoes. (everyone always things I have made from scratch my sauce because of the added tomatoes) Let it cook for about 15 minutes to get all the flavors mixed.

I always mix my cheeses, so in a medium bowl combine the cottage cheese and the mozzarella cheese.  Even though my noodles were oven ready I like to give them a quick dip in bowling water just to soften them. I get the water boiling, dip the noodles for about a minute or so then put in the pan.
I put a layer of sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 baking pan. I never measure but its probably about a cup of sauce then I add 3 noodles side by side, Layer 1/2 the cheese mix on top of the noodles,  Put a layer of sauce, Top that with 3 more noodles, then put the rest of the cheese for another layer of cheese and then 3 more noodles. Then I put another cup or some of sauce on the top. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. About 10 minutes before its done I like to sprinkle a handful of mozzarella cheese over top the sauce to brown.  When you first take it out of the oven it will be very runny because of the melted cheese. We let it sit about 20 minutes before cutting to keep it from being so runny.

This was so good, that we almost licked the pan. Apparently it has been too long since I made lasagna because usually we have leftovers to eat the next day but we ate the whole pan in one evening.  I also make stuffed shells just the same way only instead of layering the noodles, I stuff the shells with the cheese mix and put sauce of them. My daughter thinks it taste better as stuffed shells. I tell her its exactly the same but she still swears by stuffed noodles. My thoughts

Every time spring or fall arrives, I end up with sinus problems. I was so glad to get my free kit from Smiley360 in the mail today. I immediately took one Advil  so I could start feeling relief fast. My Thoughts
I love how easy these ice sphere molds are to use. Just fill them with water and gently put the cap on and freeze for 4-6 hours. Once its froze, you just need to run it under hot water to loosen the ice, pop the cap off and you have perfectly round balls of ice which last so much longer than cubes before melting. Even better if you make the ice balls of of tea, punch or whatever you are serving and you won't get a watery drink as the ice melts. These were super easy to use and so handy to have. Plus I can fill them up and stack them in the corner of the freezer and they are always ready to use and not taking up a lot of freezer space. As an added tip, if you use boiling water to make the ice, the balls will be clear and not cloudy.

My Thoughts
I love the idea of shatterproof glasses. A number of years back I damaged a nerve in my arm and it caused my hand to go numb. I would never know when it was going to happen so I ended up breaking a lot of dishes until everything got replaced with plastic. Plastic just isn't as pretty or elegant as glass though. My Thoughts
I like movies that I can share with my grandchildren without having to worry about what they are going to see. There isn't any bad language in the movie and only slight violence. Its got quite a bit of humor in the movie.  The kids are like secret agents. I like that it shows both boys and girls as strong smart kids. This was a sequel but other than a few scenes for the most part you don't have to worry about the first movie.  The wonderful people at FlyBy Promotions are giving a copy of this movie to one of my blog readers. My Thoughts
This was a hard book for me to really get into because the intro scene is about finding a body so you know there has been a murder but then the book starts out with Pru and her fiance Christopher on holiday. It was over 30% in the book before the murder occurred. I would have preferred this to be classified as fiction instead of mystery.  The only other issue I had with this book was the volume of characters in it. There were just so many people that I had a hard time keeping straight who was who.
I enjoyed the book once I got over expecting it to be a mystery book. I really like the characters of Pru and Christopher and how they interact with each other and are there for one another. I quite enjoyed the middle age romance story. I liked learning about the history of gardening subjects. I just really wish it was not classed as a mystery. I felt deceived because that opening scene was misleading. The boys in the preview are never heard of again. I dont' think that later on when the murder really occurs, the boys are even mentioned as having found the body.
